Letter from the President:
Yet another school year is getting ready to start, and before we all begin to be pulled in too many different directions, I wanted to take a moment to reflect upon our chapter’s prior successful endeavors. Last year, we accomplished the following:
- Awarded two research scholarships totaling $250 each
- Held a “Teacher’s Night Out” (free professional development night for teachers)
- Donated school supplies to needy children in Kent City Schools
- Co-Sponsored a regional NCLB summit
- Sponsored attendance for 2 members at the yearly PDK Summit in Washington, D.C. (Rebecca W. and Robin M. both presented at the conference)
- Donated children’s books to Tallmadge City Schools (to be used in a summer tutoring program)
- Held two member social events
- Inducted 5 new members
- Donated professional development texts to Iraq (ongoing project)
As I look back at what we accomplished, two things come to mind. First, without the support of such a wonderful board and dedicated members, these things would not have happened. So before the year begins, I would like to personally thank my fellow board members for being such a fabulous, energetic, kind group of people. I certainly am fortunate to be able to work with such fine people. Second, I am looking forward to another year of wonderful social/educational events, scholarships, and service projects.
We already have some wonderful things in store for this school year, and we will post these on the new PDK/KSU web blog at: http://ksupdk.wordpress.com/. As always, we are continually searching for new service projects, and welcome more active participation in our chapter events.
Have a wonderful, inspirational year!
Sincerely,
Maria D. Shaheen
KSU/PDK President
